Our Children Come First
Kinonje Abinoonjiiag Niigan Inc. (KANI) is a child and family advocacy and support organization, aimed at keeping our families together by putting children first.
We work for our entire Kinonjeoshtegon First Nations (KFN) community, on and off-reserve, offering services and supports aimed at keeping our families together.
KANI was created by the community, for the community. We, as Kinonjeoshtegon people, know best how to help our own families. We operate differently than other organizations. We seek to assist and advocate for the whole family, centred around our children, with a goal of maintaining connection for all our relations.
KANI offers a broad range of services to our families and children. We use a preventative approach in everything we do and are rooted in harm reduction. We do everything we can to keep our children with family. If that’s not possible, we do all we can to bring them home as soon as we can.

Our Path
We owe our beginnings to KFN’s late Chief Dave Traverse, who lobbied for a standalone organization for the community. He believed deeply that we knew best how to care for our own families. Because of his commitment to the community’s wellbeing, KANI received its mandate from the Province of Manitoba in 2021.

To provide children and youth with a safe and nurturing environment while guiding and assisting families to maintain healthy and unified homes.
Our Vision
A supportive and respectful community environment where the strengths of family, children, and youth are built upon.
Our Goal
Our goal is to have every Kinonjeoshtegon child at home, in their community, safely with their own family and friends who are loving and supportive.
